Willem van Konijnenburg (Dutch)

short documentary | title: Mieke Rijnders on Willem van Konijnenburg | Karin Merx 2008

At the end of 2007 Mieke Rijnders, art historian, finished here Phd dissertation on the artist Willem van Konijnenburg with success. Because of my study of cultural science and my love and interest in art, I thought it would be nice to ask her about Willem van Konijnenburg and make a small documentary of it for my e-zine of cultural science. In this documentary she talks about the success of Konijnenburg. His struggle and at last the Maecenas who made it possible for him to work as an artist so he could stop making illustrations and designs for magazines.

She also tells about how Albert Plascheart, a critic and journalist, was very critical in a positive way, for the career of Konijnenburg. That would change later unfortunately. She also questioned why an artist like Konijnenburg could be the proud of the Netherlands in the Interbellum and be completely forgotten after World War two.
