These horses are a specific race in the Netherlands called ‘Friese Paarden’. I made this piece out of compassion for the owner of the youngest horse. The mother died a few month after it was born. Losing an animal is a very traumatic experience.

What I tried to accomplish is, besides that the mother takes care of her just born foal, a recognition as with a portrait. The foal is still wet. When I offered her this piece she recognised the horse immediately, and that was for me everything I needed. Kind of commissioned, but no other pay than a good meal. That suited me.
